We recommend planning at least 2 hours for the visit, but a relaxed walk throughout the entire area takes up a whole day. Even the most difficult routes can be done by kids and elderly people. Nevertheless, while in Savvaļa, everyone is responsible for themselves.
It’s suggested to choose an outdoor outfit, including rubber boots, anti-mosquito sprays will come in handy.
The exhibition can be viewed using the provided map or taking a random route, it’s also possible to swim, take a sauna, use the kitchen and the library and camp on-site.
SAVVAĻA STYLE
Camp in your own tent, in your car or under the great wide sky on site – in the designated meadow.

In the project SPACE – Sustainable Production for Artistic Communities in Europe two Baltic art spaces - SAVVAĻA (LV) and Wild Bits [MAAJAAM] (EE), located in the rural countryside of their respective countries collaborate on two year long joint cultural programming. SPACE invites the general public to learn about the green lifestyle, green artistic practices and artists' creative works and reconnect with nature on site and online. Regional route map between Savvaļa and Maajaam/Wild Bits is aimed at visitors going to both places, including interesting sites and places to see / experience on the way that we as curatorial team have found valuable. In this map we decided to explore the concept of locality. We understood that the notion of local is different for each of the art centers and it is very much dependent on the local landscape and surrounding area. As we are planning to expand this network of art residencies, we hope that this exercise is only a beginning and that each of the art spaces that joins this network would continue this exercise. And we would get a much broader understanding of what local means in various European areas.
This project is part of program SPACE co-funded by the European Union program Creative Europe. Additionally co-funded by The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and State Culture Capital Foundation (VKKF).
